Zolotareva is a clear favourite here and the betting market agrees, but Papamichail arrives off two of her best results of the season in US Open qualifying, where she upset one seed and pushed a much higher-rated opponent to two tiebreaks. She did that on hard courts despite spending almost the entire year on clay, and she returns now to her better surface, where she also won the pair's only previous meeting. Zolotareva, by contrast, keeps winning her openers and losing her next match, and lost heavily as a favourite four days ago. We are not backing the upset outright - only that Papamichail stays within two and a half games.

Our models had this Barranquilla final close to a coin flip, but that reading leans on Alves's clay record: she is far stronger on clay than on hard, and this final is on hard. Correcting for the surface and for Vergara Rivera's poor recent run, we make Alves the clear favourite too, just not as clear as the market does. That leaves a small amount of value on the 19-year-old at her price, so we take a reduced stake on the underdog rather than a view that she wins.

Gea has been the story of this draw, a 21-year-old ranked outside the top 200 who lost in qualifying and has since won three matches, two of them over five sets, to reach the second week. Van de Zandschulp is the sounder player and beat Alex de Minaur in straight sets to get here, so we make him the likelier winner. But the market has priced Gea's ranking rather than his current level, and our numbers say this is much closer to even in games than a three-game head start suggests. We are taking Gea with plus three games at Pinnacle rather than backing him outright.
