Tikhonova arrives in the Sao Paulo qualifying final off the best week of her season, beating two opponents rated around 1590 in Barranquilla as a heavy outsider and winning again this morning for the loss of three games. Osuigwe comes the other way: one match in a fortnight, a rating propped up by her clay results rather than hard courts, and a service game that has been broken repeatedly all summer, including a lost final as a strong favourite in July. On the surface they are actually playing, the ratings are level, and the form runs one way. At better than even money on the underdog, that is worth a bet.
W. Osuigwe won 2 - 0
Zverev and Shelton are rated dead level on hard courts, at 2039 Elo apiece, and the gap the market is charging for comes almost entirely from Zverev's clay results, which have no bearing on a New York final. Shelton arrives at the highest rating of his career after beating the defending champion Carlos Alcaraz from a long price and then Frances Tiafoe, while Zverev had the softer half of the draw and needed five sets twice against much weaker opposition. Zverev's perfect head-to-head record is real and keeps this close, but Pinnacle's 2.28 on Shelton still looks a shade generous. Small stake on the American.
A. Zverev won 3 - 1
